Edmund B. H. Holcomb was born in Simsbury and educated in the district schools. He grew up on a farm and when a young man peddled Yankee notions throughout the states of New York and Massachusetts, as well as in Connecticut. Later he engaged in mercantile business in North Adams, Massachusetts until 1849, when he became an argonaut, voyaging to California in a sailing vessel around Cape Horn. After two years prospecting, with fair success, he returned to his native home, making the trip by water and located in Granby where he bought a farm and spent the balance of his life engaging principally in general farming. He greatly improved his farm, died there in 1878 and was buried in Simsbury.

A bible available through the Salmon Brook Historical Society and the Probate records record Edmund's death in 1878.

From Carol Laun: As a child richard lived in the Turkey Hills (East Granby) section of Granby, in the big family home on Hartford Avenue. He was educated in loacl schools, including a private Academy. His life was adventurous and he traveled extensively in his work. For nearly ten years (1845-1855) he worked on the Isthmus of Panama, drawing maps, planning grades, and building bridges for the Panama Railroad. With his brothers, Franklin Porteous and Henry Lyman, he build the bridge across the Savannah river at Savannah, Georgia, using slave labor.

Henry remained upon the farm till he attained his majority, then attended the Iowa State University for one year, after which he began the study of medicine at Iowa City, iowa, with Drs. Lloyd and Statler. In 1861, he graduated M. D. from Rush Medical College, Chicago, Ill., and settled in Tipton, Iowa. In August, 1862 he was commissioned Assistant Surgeon of the 18th Reg. Iowa Vol. Infantry, and was assigned to duty as a Ward Surgeon in the U.. S. General Hospital at Springfield, Mo., so continuing from 6 Nov. 1862 till May, 1863; was then appointed Surgeon-in-Chief of the same, remaining such till the fall of 1863; when he was ordered South with his Regiment, and was assigned to duty as Examiner of Federal recruits in Central Arkansas. In March, 1864, he was ordered to Springfield, Mo., where he mustered as Surgeon of the 2d Arkansas Cavalry, and was shortly after appointed Medical Director and Purveyor of the troops in the District of south-west Missouri. In the fall of the same year, he was on active duty with the forces against Gen. Price in his raid through Missouri. Jan. 1st, 1865, he joined his regiment at Memphis, Tenn., and was assigned to duty as Surgeon-in-Chief of the Cavalry Division of West Tennessee, and so remained till he was mustered out, 20 Aug. 1865, at Memphis, by reason of the close of the war. He was married, and then returned to Tipton, Iowa, and resumed the practice of his profession. In 1874-5 he attended a session of Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York City, and received the ad eundem degree. In the fall of 1881, he, with his family, removed to Los Angeles, CAl., where he is now (1883) located in practice; --firm of Drs. Maynard & Cochran, Mascarel Block.

Russell began teaching at the age of seventeen, and was engaged in that profession for eighteen years. He enlisted as Orderly Sergeant, in the , and continued with it during its term of service in the War of the Rebellion; re-enlisted in the , served till the close of the war and was honorably discharged 3 July, 1865. He has been a member and officer in the Methodist Episcopal Church for forty years, and the same in its Sabbath-School for forty-five years. He is a drug, book and stationery dealer. Resides (1883) in Lewis Center, Ohio, where he has lived for twenty years.442

Mary went with her parents to Ohio in 1836. since their marriage they have resided in Powell, OH. Prior to that date Mr. Hall had chiefly folllowed the avocation of teaching. He is now (1883) engaged in the drug trade, and is known as a gentleman of probity and excellent influence.464

Asa succeeded to the ownership of the paternal homestead in Powell, O., which by railroad developments has been converted into townlots, and has made him a real estate dealer. In early life he taught music over a large district of Central Ohio.474

546. Levi8 Hall AM, MD (Eliza7Humphrey, Dorcas6Case, Isaac5, Bathsheba4Humphrey, Samuel3, John2, Michael1) was born on 26 Oct 1833.476 He married Lucinda Mitchell on 10 Apr 1855.477

Dr. Hall entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1854, having obtained his education in the Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware, O., which, in 1875, conferred upon him the degree of A. M. He was connected with the Ohio Conference and constantly engaged in pastoral work till 1872, when he united with the Minnesota Conference and continued his ministerial labors in that State, at the same time pursuing the study of medicine, till the 23d Feb. 1882, when he graduated M. D. from the Hahnemann Medical College, Chicago, Ill., since which time he has been settled and engaged in the active practice of this profession in Minneapolis, Minn; --res (1883) No. 77 Highland Avenue.478

Thomas is an engineer, in charge of the Steam and Water Works at the Girls' Industrial Home, at Delaware, O. Has been associated with that institution, in various capacities, for the past twelve years (1883).487

He lived in 1883 at Wessington Springs, Jerauld Co., SD.497

Ann was an earnest and successful teacher before her marriage. J. W. was a prosperous miller.504

Mary was a teacher, and is possessed of notable musical and literary taste and talent. They reside (1883) at Arcadia, Iowa, where he is engaged in the practice of law.516

552. Alvin O.8 Case (Orlando7, Isaac6, Isaac5, Bathsheba4Humphrey, Samuel3, John2, Michael1) was born on 17 Apr 1816 at Worthington, Franklin Co., OH. He married Mila Case, daughter of Israel Putnam Case and Laurinda Morrison, on 19 Jan 1837 at Franklin Co., OH. He died on 5 Sep 1898 at Franklin Co., OH, at age 82.

Alvin farmed in Perry Township where he and Mila raised their family of ten children a mile or two west of Worthington. In 1860 he owned no land but had $200 of equipment and $400 worth of livestock including 3 horses, 2 cows, 5 other cattle, 29 sheep and 35 swine. he produced 48 bushels of wheat, 500 of corn, 80 of oats, 80 of potatoes, 2 tons of hay, 80 pounds of wool and 50 of butter. Alvin and Mila died at their home at Elmwood (now Linworth). Mcioto Company Descendants, McCormick p. 84.

554. Laura L.8 Case (Mila7, Israel6, Israel5, Bathsheba4Humphrey, Samuel3, John2, Michael1) was born on 10 Dec 1837 at Worthington, Franklin Co., OH. She married Joseph T. Bower, son of Peter Bower and Mary Davis, in Mar 1858 at Worthington, Franklin Co., OH. She died on 20 Mar 1920 at Perry Township, Franklin Co., OH, at age 82.

Their marriage license was issued in Franklin County, Ohio, 27 Mar 1858. Scioto Company Descendants gives the marriage date as 22 Mar 1858. Dublin, Ohio Memories, the Dublin Historical Society, gives marriage date as 28 Mar 1858.

"Joseph Bower was recoeded in the census as a farmer in Perry Township west of Worthington, but he evidently rented land and probably also worked at another occupation to support his family. " McComick Scioto Company Descendants, p. 89.

Laura died at 10am, probably at home. Funeral arrangements by Samuel E. Corbin, Worthington, Ohio. Informatiion on her death certificate was by Charles A. Bower, her son. She was buried in the Dublin Cemetery, Northeast quadrant of old section, lot 311. No marker. Death Certificate, State of Ohio #21828, filed 26 Mar 1920.

Joseph was killed when a cake of ice fell on him while it ws being cut for storage in the ice house.

Florence is recorded in the 1900 Granby census, page 6A, line 14, age 61, as a Farmer. Wife Sarah and daughter Sarah Della were also in the household.

He married Mary Elizabeth Lincoln on 30 Jun 1881 at Greensboro, VT. He married Ethel Reed Seydel on 29 Apr 1909 at Santa Barbara, CA.

He was employed at Stationmaster, Wosley, South Dakota.
